Since I got my CSM's I can't get enough of cranking out socks. My first intention was cranking out samples of some of our self-striping yarns, but it's actually been great for finally knitting up all the striped yarns in my stash. I have belonged to a couple of yarn clubs in the past, but lets face it, you can only knit so fast, and my stash is getting out of hand.
I get a little bored with plain old stocknette stitch, so this takes care of that.

The learning curve resulted in some real tragedies! I'm glad you worked it out.
If I didn't love handknitting socks (especially on the subway to/from work) I'd consider a sock machine.

That's so neat and such a good way to crank out some socks. I assume you do the finishing by hand, but it would be great if someone would design a machine to do kitchener stitch too ...
I love my sock knitting machine! I can knit a pair of socks in a little over an hour, then another 30 minutes to graft the toes. I haven't stopped hand knitting, but being able to knit socks this quickly does have its perks.
